This story was ok. A light and easy read. The character development could have been a bit better and some scenes probably fleshed out a little more, but overall not too bad. The next book may improve on these points. The only really negative things I have to say are: 1. The typos were irritating. A typo in the first sentence of a book is not exactly encouraging, but it didn't detract too much from reading the book (for me anyway). 2. I wish the author had set the scene better at the start. I had no idea this book was set in Australia. At first I thought it was set in the states until she mentioned one character having an American accent. But I still had no idea what city it was meant to be until Nova was sick after getting icecream and it said she got on a tram and went past the Rialto Towers - then I realized it was set in Melbourne. This is probably something the author could have snuck in a little earlier ... Being an Australian myself, I picked up on the Rialto Tower reference but others may not have got this.Aside from this, I enjoyed the premise of the story and would be interested to see where it could.

Nova Nephilim Code Book 1 eBook TP Hogan Reviews
Of course I happen to enjoy this story. And the second book isn't out yet. TP Hogan please lock yourself in your creative room and don't come out until you finish the next book. I'm glad I bought your book because it's nice finding an author who knows how to write. Now I have to find another author to get through the waiting period for book two. Thank you for having the gift of writing and sharing it with us.
I just loved everything about this book! I was hooked from the very beginning.
The story was well written and I soon found myself at the last page, waiting for more. A story with relatable characters both the good and the bad, and a paranormal twist that was new fresh and exciting. Can't wait to read the next book by this author!
I have read a few books about Nephilim, and all of them have different ideas about the Nephilim. I really liked this story, it was new and different, I did not get bored with it. In fact I just bought this book earlier today and I already finished it. I could not put it down, I wished it was longer. I liked how all the Nephilim had different abilities, and they weren't like regular superpowers, they were pretty creative. I would have liked a little more background on the characters, especially the main character; but overall I think its a very promising series and I can't wait for the next one.
If a book draws me in right away and I do not want to stop reading, it is a keeper. I will admit I am appalled at poor spelling and grammar, however, unlike some of the other reviewers, I did not really notice any of that that in this book. There was a good point made, however, by another reviewer. We do need more background on Nephilim and who they are. What walks of life are they from, etc. Also, she calls Zeph Superman because she saw him fly. But this was done well before the event that made her Nephilim. That was not addressed in the book. However, those two small points did not deter my enjoyment of the narrative. Anxiously awaiting Edward's story.
I loved the nephilim / angel concept behind the story line. The characters form an interesting motley collection of super heroes that really need development and depth to make the story richer. Nova came across as a charitable do-gooder, with a good head & chip on her shoulders - a great female lead. The development of her powers is well written but I was left wanting to know a lot more about the "accident" that caused the wheels to start in motion. I really enjoyed the book but it left lots of unanswered questions and underdeveloped ideas (especially in the romance area). This would have been fine as I felt the next book would really keep the ball rolling - but it appears the author is switching to another character for the next book - not sure how that's going to help, but I'll probably give it a try.
The right stuff. The right price. Character development. Kick-ass heroine. Seeds dropped for potential future alliances and conflicts. But not a case of the all-good vs. the all-bad (at least so far, and the author alludes to moral ambiguity). I look forward to the next installment, which will feature the point of view of a different character.
At one point it almost drops into the mind-control dilemma that has ruined several otherwise well-written series (e.g. Mistborn), but the author manages to pull out of it. But only due to a special exemption. So this is the one point where I'd have withheld half a star maybe. We'll see how things go from here.
It's rare that I have anything good to say about fantasy set in the contemporary world, by the way. This is a rare find. So much of it goes straight to zombie apocalypse without passing anything interesting. But this series appears to be headed up rather than down.
This story wasn't bad. Towards the end I was craving a little more, however. The book is about Nova who is injected with Nephilim DNA, turning her into the first successful human to become Nephilim, which are basically decedents of angels that have human DNA. The story was engaging enough that I wanted to read through it in one sitting. Towards the end though, I find myself impatient towards the outcome of what the story had been building up to. The characters are engaging enough, the main character is likeable, the quips in the book were put into place perfectly, that you would find yourself chuckling at it. It ends on a mini cliffhanger, but it's really not bad at all. The story moves at a good pace, though it amazed me how fast time went by in the book because you easily go over a couple of months. The cover of the book too made perfect sense once you got into the book because I had been questioning that. Overall it was a good engaging read, and it would perhaps create some loyal readers to the beginning of this series. I'm not sure that I liked it enough to then read about another character that I didn't care for in this book (because that's the sequel). It doesn't mean I won't read it eventually though.
